| Objectives: This study was performed in order to examine the status of nurses using family centered care approach while giving health care to children at hospitals.Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in three different university, state and private hospitals in Karabuk province between 1st of October and 1st of December, 2015. The study was performed with 173 nurses who were working in the clinics where the child patients were hospitalized and who accepted to participate in the study. Data were collected by using a survey form and statistical analyses were used to evaluate the data.Results: Of all nurses, 42.2% of them did not have knowledge about family-centered care. Besides, 59% of them stated that the family-centered care was not applied in institutions and 59.5% of them stated that they did not apply this approach. It was detected that there was a significant difference between the status of nurses applying the family-centered care and the knowledge of nurses regarding the family-centered care (p= 0.000), year of nurses working (p= 0.012), and the clinics where nurses were working (p= 0.030).Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that more than the half of the nurses did not apply the family-centered care approach. It is concluded that nurses who work in child clinics and who have knowledge about the family-centered care apply this approach more often compared to other nurses. |
