| Energy demand modeling is an essential component for energy planning, formulating strategies, and recommending energy policies. Since the early 1970s, when energy caught the attention of policymakers in the aftermath of the first oil crisis, the research on energy demand analysis has vastly increased from a limited understanding of the nature of energy demand and demand response due to the presence of external shocks in the 1970s. Electricity consumption in the MENA region has been increasing steadily for the past 22 years, with a registered annual consumption growth rate of around 19.43% from 1990 to 2011.
